Job summary

PJM Project Management in Auckland is seeking an experienced client-side Project Manager to join the Newmarket team. You will independently manage three to five small to medium-sized projects, taking ownership from early planning and design through procurement, construction and handover.

The role requires strong front-end design management, procurement and NZS 3910/3916 knowledge, plus excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years' relevant New Zealand project experience.
• Proven client-side project management experience, preferably in consultancy.
• Strong front-end design management and consultant coordination experience.
• Advanced knowledge of NZS 3910/3916 including drafting and administration.
• NZ residency or valid NZ work rights.

Responsibilities

• Lead front-end design management coordinating architects, engineers and consultants from concept to construction docs.
• Manage scope, cost, programme, quality, risk and design deliverables.
• Lead procurement processes and develop tender strategies.
• Draft, prepare and negotiate NZS 3910/3916 contracts with amendments.
• Administer contracts, including notices, payment claims, variations and EOTs.
• Support Engineer to the Contract and manage commercial risks.
• Lead client, consultant and contractor meetings with clear recommendations.
• Prepare project reports, programmes, risk registers and meeting minutes.
• Deliver projects through construction and handover with strong client relationships.

PJM is looking for an experienced client-side Project Manager to join the Auckland team. The role will suit a confident project professional with strong front-end design management, procurement and construction contract experience, including advanced knowledge of NZS 3910 and NZS 3916. You will independently manage three to five small to medium-sized projects, taking ownership from early planning and design through procurement, construction and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Leading front-end design management, coordinating architects, engineers and consultants from concept through to construction documentation.
• Managing scope, cost, programme, quality, risk and design deliverables.
• Leading design coordination, identifying issues early and ensuring projects are ready for procurement.
• Developing and managing procurement and tender processes.
• Drafting, preparing and negotiating NZS 3910/3916 construction contracts, including project-specific amendments and special conditions.
• Administering NZS 3910/3916 contracts, including Contract Instructions, notices, payment claims, variations, extensions of time, certificates and contractor claims.
• Supporting the Engineer to the Contract and managing contractual and commercial risks.
• Leading client, consultant and contractor meetings and providing clear, practical recommendations.
• Preparing project reports, programmes, risk registers, PCGs and meeting minutes.
• Managing projects through construction and handover while maintaining strong client relationships.

About you

• At least 5 years' relevant New Zealand project experience.
• Proven client-side project management experience, preferably within a consultancy environment.
• Strong front-end design management and consultant coordination experience.
• Advanced knowledge and practical experience with NZS 3910/3916, including contract drafting and administration.
• Strong experience with variations, EOTs, payment claims, notices and contractual correspondence.
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Confidence to challenge advice, make decisions and provide clear recommendations.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in construction, project management, engineering, architecture, QS or a related field.
• NZ residency or valid NZ work rights.
