Job summary

Gallagher Animal Management in Hamilton, New Zealand, is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to design and improve the mechanical hardware behind eShepherd, Gallagher’s virtual fencing technology for cattle.

You will work hands-on across concept to field support, mentor junior engineers, and drive robust, manufacturable hardware through DFMEA and DFM reviews.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience required.
• Background in mechanical engineering, R&D or product development.
• Strong knowledge of injection moulded plastics and material selection.
• CAD capability, ideally PTC Creo.
• GD&T, DFMEA/DFM experience and drawing release.
• Root cause analysis and practical problem-solving skills.
• Confident in engineering decisions with imperfect information.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical solutions for new and existing eShepherd products.
• Develop robust, cost-effective and manufacturable hardware.
• Work across concept, prototype, testing, production and field support.
• Support DFM reviews, DFMEA and critical design reviews.
• Investigate field issues, warranty concerns and reliability feedback.
• Turn customer and field insights into clear design improvements.
