Senior Farm Hardware Engineer – Product Development

Job summary

Gallagher’s eShepherd team seeks a Senior Product Development Engineer to design and improve the mechanical hardware behind our virtual fencing system for cattle, delivering robust, manufacturable solutions for real farming conditions.

You’ll collaborate with electronics, firmware, product, manufacturing and field-support teams; mentor junior engineers; and drive DFMEA/DFM, root-cause analysis and practical design improvements from field insights.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Background in mechanical engineering, R&D or product development.
• Strong knowledge of injection moulded plastics and material selection.
• CAD capability, ideally PTC Creo.
• GD&T, drawing release, DFM and DFMEA experience.
• Strong root cause analysis and practical problem-solving skills.
• Confidence making engineering decisions with imperfect information.

Responsibilities

• Designing mechanical solutions for new and existing eShepherd products.
• Developing robust, cost-effective and manufacturable hardware.
• Working across concept, prototype, testing, production and field support.
• Supporting DFM reviews, DFMEA and critical design reviews.
• Investigating field issues, warranty concerns and reliability feedback.
• Turning customer and field insights into clear design improvements.
• Working closely with electronics, firmware, product, manufacturing and customer-facing teams.
• Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to strong design quality.
