Job summary

Climate17 is recruiting Senior and Principal Protection Engineers to support ElectroNet’s NZ expansion. Roles are based in Christchurch, with opportunities across transmission, sub-transmission and distribution networks.

You will develop practical protection solutions, perform studies, and guide project teams. Ideal candidates have extensive protection studies experience, PSCAD/PowerFactory proficiency and relay settings expertise with Siemens/Schneider equipment, plus a Washington Accord or

Qualifications

Six years for Senior appointments; ~15+ years for Principal.
Strong protection studies and settings experience.
Practical knowledge of transmission and/or sub-transmission protection schemes.
Experience using PowerFactory and PSCAD.
Relay settings experience with Siemens and Schneider equipment.
Engineering qualification meeting ElectroNet’s requirements (Washington Accord or NZ equivalence).

Responsibilities

Deliver protection modelling, coordination and studies using PowerFactory and/or PSCAD.
Assess protection performance in networks with inverter-based generation.
Develop protection philosophies, setting calculations and relay settings.
Work with primary, secondary, SCADA and commissioning teams to deliver coordinated solutions.
Provide technical guidance, review deliverables and mentor junior engineers.
Support project scoping, client relationships and delivery.
