Job summary

Transpower New Zealand is seeking a Protection & Automation Project Engineer to join Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch teams. You’ll contribute across scoping, design review, risk management and commissioning for critical HV projects, helping shape practical solutions that meet grid requirements and safety standards.

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across engineering, delivery and asset planning, applying protection expertise and growing in project engineering.

Qualifications

• HV protection and automation design, settings, implementation or commissioning.
• Understanding of transmission assets and reliable grid operation.
• Willingness to grow in a project engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Scoping, reviewing and supporting Protection & Automation work from concept through to commissioning.
• Investigating and modelling protection schemes under varying grid configurations.
• Collaborating with project managers, consultants and internal stakeholders to deliver practical technical solutions.
• Reviewing design deliverables and contributing to project scopes, cost estimates and business cases.
• Supporting updates to protection scheme settings and technical guidance.
