Job summary

Westpac New Zealand Limited in Auckland is seeking a mobile engineering lead responsible for end-to-end delivery of production mobile solutions, from shaping technical approach to testing, release and operational support, while championing code quality, security and sustainable reduction of technical debt.

Design, develop and maintain iOS and Android apps, drive DevOps practices and deployment automation, and mentor teammates to deliver practical, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience in iOS or Android mobile app development.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging.
• Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain mobile applications and integration solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly, including after-hours support when required.
• Ensure best practice in design, coding standards, performance and security.
• Collaborate with project teams from concept through delivery to meet business and technical requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
• Create and maintain documentation throughout the SDLC to support transparency and knowledge sharing.
• Implement changes aligned with design specifications and evolving business needs.
• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Maintain and refine support procedures to ensure resilience and minimize downtime.
• Contribute to release and deployment processes, ensuring accurate documentation and governance standards.
• Implement automated testing and ensure high-quality code through code reviews and continuous integration practices.

What will you bring?

At least 5+ years of professional engineering experience in iOS or Android mobile app development.

Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.

Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging.

Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions.

Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.

Integrates AI effectively into engineering workflows to improve quality and efficiency, demonstrates strong judgement on appropriate use, and coaches others on responsible AI practices.
