Job summary

Westpac New Zealand in Auckland is seeking an experienced mobile software engineer to own end-to-end delivery of production mobile solutions, from shaping technical approach through testing, release and operations. You will champion code quality, security and debt reduction.

We expect 5+ years in iOS or Android development, strong DevOps experience (CI/CD, containers), rigorous testing and code reviews, and solid software architecture knowledge.

Qualifications

• At least 5+ years of professional engineering experience in iOS or Android mobile app development.
• Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
• Integrates AI effectively into engineering workflows to improve quality and efficiency, demonstrates strong judgement on appropriate use, and coaches others on responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and integration solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly, ensuring system stability and participating in after-hours support when required.
• Ensure best practice in design, coding standards, performance and security.
• Collaborate with project teams from concept through delivery to ensure solutions meet business and technical requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
• Create and maintain documentation throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to support transparency and knowledge sharing.
• Implement changes aligned with design specifications and evolving business needs.
• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Maintain and refine support procedures to ensure resilience and minimize downtime.
• Contribute to release and deployment processes, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with governance standards.
• Implement automated testing and ensure high-quality code through code reviews and continuous integration practices.
