Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer for a 6-month contract to lead end-to-end mobile delivery for iOS or Android platforms. You will shape technical approaches and oversee implementation, testing, release, and operational support while championing code quality, security and reducing technical debt.

You will design, test, and maintain mobile applications, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide mentorship to junior developers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional engineering experience in iOS or Android mobile app development.
• Experience in DevOps CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Proficient in unit testing, code reviews, and debugging.
• Ability to break down complex problems and deliver practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
• Integrates AI effectively into engineering workflows to improve quality and efficiency, demonstrates strong judgement on appropriate use, and coaches others on responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain mobile applications and integration solutions.
• Deliver end-to-end mobile solutions from conceptual design through testing, release and support.
• Ensure best practices in design, coding standards, performance and security.
• Collaborate with project teams to meet business and technical requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
• Create and maintain SDLC documentation to support transparency and knowledge sharing.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Contribute to release and deployment processes with accurate documentation and governance.
