The role requires 12+ years in project management, at least 7 years in mining, and experience managing multi-million dollar capital projects. You will lead diverse teams, manage governance, procurement, and risk across complex environments.

About the Role

Our client, a major force in the mining industry, is seeking a highly accomplished and results-driven Senior Mining Project Manager to lead significant capital projects in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This leadership role is responsible for the successful execution of complex mining projects from inception through to commissioning, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing large-scale mining infrastructure development, capital expenditure, and cross-functional teams. You will be responsible for strategic planning, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and overall project governance. This is a critical position offering the opportunity to make a substantial impact on major projects, driving operational excellence and contributing to the company's strategic growth. The role demands strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of the mining lifecycle and associated project management complexities. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full lifecycle of mining capital projects, including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules.
• Lead and motivate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, contractors, and consultants.
• Implement robust risk management strategies and contingency planning.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) standards.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, including government agencies, community representatives, and internal leadership.
• Oversee procurement processes and contract management.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions promptly.
• Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management and stakeholders.
• Ensure effective project handover and closure, including documentation and lessons learned.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
• A minimum of 12 years of progressive project management experience, with at least 7 years managing large-scale mining projects.
• Proven experience in managing multi-million dollar capital projects from concept to completion.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Prince2) and software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
• Expertise in risk management, financial controls, and contract negotiation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in diverse environments and managing remote teams or operations.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or equivalent registration is highly desirable.
• Must be willing to reside in or near Queenstown and travel to project sites as required.
