Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Operations Superintendent to lead Queenstown-based mining activities, driving safe, cost-effective execution of drilling, blasting, loading and hauling. The role emphasizes production targets, safety compliance and environmental responsibility with a hands-on leadership style.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience managing large-scale mining operations, strong leadership, and in-depth knowledge of mining equipment and methodologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 9+ years of progressive mining operations experience with at least 5 years in supervisory/management roles.
• Experience in open-pit and/or underground mining operations.
• Knowledge of mining methods, equipment, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all daily mining operations, including drilling, blasting, excavation, loading, and transportation of materials.
• Ensure achievement of production targets while maintaining safety and environmental standards.
• Develop and implement operational plans, procedures, and best practices to optimize efficiency and minimize costs.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of mine supervisors, foremen, and operational personnel.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, fostering a strong safety culture.
• Manage the operational budget, controlling costs and ensuring efficient use of resources and equipment.
• Collaborate with maintenance, technical services, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
• Monitor operational performance through KPIs, reporting on progress and areas for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with mining legislation, regulations, and company policies.
• Contribute to strategic mine planning and operational improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• A minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role (e.g., Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent).
• Proven experience in open-pit and/or underground mining operations.
• Strong knowledge of mining methods, equipment, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and motivational skills.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication abilities.
• Experience with mine planning software and production management systems.
• A valid Blasting Certificate or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
