Qualifications

• Experience with Xero and Excel; AML/CFT compliance is advantageous.
• Mandarin language ability is a plus.

Senior-level Accountant / Financial Controller (Multi-Entity)

PJ International is seeking a Financial Controller to lead and own the full finance function across a group of related companies spanning immigration advisory, fund/capital management, property/real estate, and international education services. This is a genuinely broad role: you will set the financial direction, build the reporting and control framework, and partner with directors on strategy - while remaining fully hands-on with the day-to-day accounting. It suits a confident, self-directed finance professional who is equally comfortable presenting a consolidated forecast to management and processing a bank reconciliation, and who thrives on multi-entity, multi-currency complexity.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the group finance function and act as the primary finance point of contact for directors and management
• Prepare and consolidate group financial statements, monthly management reports, and cash flow forecasts
• Provide financial analysis, insight, and recommendations to support directors’ decision-making
• Establish, document, and continuously improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting frameworks
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning across the group
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and banks

Hands-on Accounting

• Manage end-to-end accounting for multiple related entities (AP/AR, bank reconciliations, general ledger)
• Drive month-end and year-end close
• Manage multi-currency transactions and account for foreign exchange gains/losses
• Manage and reconcile overseas bank accounts across jurisdictions
• Account for real estate / property holdings - rental income, outgoings, capital transactions, and property reporting
• Support fund and investment accounting for capital management entities (investor contributions, distributions, NAV support, portfolio records)
• Handle GST returns and IRD compliance across all group companies
• Maintain inter-company and inter-currency transactions, eliminations, and reconciliations
• Support AML/CFT compliance obligations and record-keeping
• Process payroll and related PAYE/KiwiSaver obligations

About You

• Qualified accountant (CA/CPA) with several years’ post-qualification experience, ideally including time at an accounting firm and a role as a senior accountant or group accountant
• Proven ability to both lead the finance function strategically and perform the day-to-day accounting personally
• Strong understanding of New Zealand tax, GST, and financial reporting requirements
• Experience in group consolidation and management reporting
• Multi-currency accounting and overseas account experience essential
• Experience in property, fund, or investment accounting highly regarded
• Advanced Xero (or similar) and strong Excel skills
• Familiarity with AML/CFT compliance an advantage
• Excellent attention to detail, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Fluency in English and Mandarin preferred, given our client base
