Senior HSW Leader for Major Infrastructure Projects

Job summary

Auckland Airport is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing leader to unite a five-person HSW team and provide trusted advice to Infrastructure leaders and delivery partners. The role drives risk reduction, incident management and continuous improvement on a major infrastructure build.

You will champion SafeAKL and a culture of care, align with AKL values, and lead through complexity across projects, construction activities and contractor management. Fixed-term until 21 December 2029.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in HSW roles within complex infrastructure, construction, operational, aviation, or multi-PCBU environments.
• 3+ years in people leadership, coaching and developing HSW professionals.
• Strong track record of uniting teams and leading through complexity.
• Credible senior HSW adviser capable of influencing leaders constructively.
• Sound knowledge of New Zealand HSW legislation and contractor-management requirements.
• Experience in assurance, incident management, reporting and continuous improvement.
• Possession of a tertiary qualification in occupational health and safety, or equivalent experience.
• Strong judgement, business acumen and communication skills.
• Experience in major projects, airport infrastructure, Safety in Design, ISO 45001, CHASNZ or Tōtika would be advantageous.

• Strengthen Safety in Design and contractor management practices.
• Use data and operational insights to identify risks and drive improvement.
• Champion SafeAKL and a culture of care at Auckland Airport.
