Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora seeks a Health and Safety Lead for Major Projects to provide specialist oversight across a portfolio of major capital works. You will ensure safety expectations are embedded from planning to handover, focusing on high‑risk activities and complex interfaces with clinical services.

You will lead assurance activity, scrutinise audit findings, and drive continuous improvement with project teams, contractors and leaders across the organisation.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in health and safety, risk management, engineering, construction management or related discipline with significant high‑risk experience.
• Experience leading safety across multiple large capital projects and complex interfaces.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and practical safety controls.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist oversight across a portfolio of major capital projects from planning through handover.
• Apply Critical Risk Standards and Safe Systems of Work on site and verify effectiveness of controls.
• Lead assurance and reporting by collating audits, incidents and contractor monitoring to improve future delivery.
