Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Senior Graphic Designer, you'll help bring the Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora brand to life through compelling visual content that connects with audiences across Aotearoa.

Working alongside our Communications and Engagement teams, you'll generate creative ideas, develop concepts and produce high-quality solutions for brand-led communications and campaigns... The role also has a strong focus on collaboration and continuous improvement. You'll work across multidisciplinary teams, contribute to team processes and support the delivery of projects on time, within budget and to a high standard. You'll also help mentor and coach other graphic designers, sharing your expertise and contributing to a high-performing creative team.

Accessibility will be an important part of your work, with digital designs needing to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and be effective across different platforms and audiences.

This is an opportunity to work on creative projects with a genuine national impact, using your creative expertise to support better health outcomes for people and communities across Aotearoa.

About you

We're looking for an experienced graphic designer who combines strong creative capability with excellent brand awareness, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a complex organisation.

You’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in design, fine arts or a related field, with around 5-7 years' graphic design experience in a similar role.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating effective, brand-led design work and experience developing effective and creative concepts for national campaigns.
  • Strong technical capability using design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • A keen eye for aesthetics and detail, with the ability to turn a brief into creative, audience-focused creative solutions.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary communications teams, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external creative and media providers.
  • Proven experience delivering high-quality creative work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong brand guardianship skills, with the confidence to advise others, advocate for brand consistency and help implement brand strategy.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching other graphic designers and contributing to a high-performing creative team.

You’ll be a confident communicator who can present your ideas clearly, build strong relationships with internal clients and adapt your approach to different audiences. You’ll bring creativity, curiosity and a willingness to continuously develop your skills and explore new ways of working.

Strong competency across Adobe Creative products and other design software, good presentation skills and an ability to navigate complex or sensitive topics would be advantageous.
