Job summary

Team Recruitment (Oxford) Limited is seeking a Senior Export Operator to lead the Auckland export desk with a strong ocean freight focus (LCL/FCL) and a smaller share of airfreight. You will own each shipment from quote to final invoice, building quotes, bookings, and documentation while maintaining client relationships.

You’ll work in a small, trusted team, with a clear path to lead responsibilities as you demonstrate expertise and commercial awareness.

Qualifications

• Solid export operations experience with freight forwarder.
• Strong ocean freight background (LCL/FCL) and some airfreight.
• Knowledge of CargoWise systems and invoicing processes.

Responsibilities

• Build quotes, follow up, and convert inquiries into business.
• Book with shipping lines, airlines and co-load partners.
• Prepare export documentation and ensure compliance.
• Inform customers and resolve issues proactively.
• Manage end-to-end shipments in CargoWise.
• Invoice at agreed rates and monitor margins.
• Develop relationships with carriers and agents.

Our client is an established, privately owned freight forwarder. They’re small enough that everyone knows each other and big enough to offer a strong international network behind you. They run a lean team and give people genuine trust to get on with the job. They invest in their people too, with a proper onboarding plan and ongoing development to set new team members up for success from day one.

After many years with the business, their long-serving export operator is moving on. They’re now looking for an experienced export professional to take over the Auckland export desk and help shape what comes next.

The role

This is a hands-on, end-to-end export role with a strong focus on ocean freight (LCL and FCL) and a smaller share of airfreight. You’ll look after a key client alongside a broader portfolio, owning each shipment from quote and booking through to final invoice.

Day to day, you’ll:

• Build quotes, follow them up and turn enquiries into business
• Book with shipping lines, airlines and co-load partners
• Prepare export documentation and keep every shipment compliant
• Keep customers informed and resolve issues before they become problems
• Manage jobs end to end in CargoWise
• Invoice to agreed rates and keep a close eye on job profitability
• Build strong working relationships with carriers, agents and transport providers

Most of the LCL business is co-loaded with trusted partners, so the role centres on customer service, accuracy and commercial awareness rather than running consolidations.

The team

You’ll join a small, supportive team and work closely with the sales and commercial team. The business is growing, and as the experienced operator in the office, you’ll have the opportunity to step up into a lead role over time.

About you

• Solid experience in export operations with a freight forwarder, ideally at a senior level
• Strong ocean freight background (LCL and FCL), with airfreight experience
• Confident with CargoWise
• Comfortable quoting, invoicing and keeping track of margins
• Organised, self-motivated and happy to take ownership with minimal supervision
• A clear, confident communicator who enjoys looking after customers and building relationships
• Keen to grow into a lead role and support others
