Job summary

Stantec’s Buildings team in New Zealand seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer / Team Leader in Auckland to guide the electrical building services group on healthcare, labs, and commercial projects. The role combines people leadership with hands-on delivery and technical guidance.

You will mentor engineers, manage client relationships, and contribute to growth of Auckland practice while ensuring quality, standards, and delivery in line with NZ Building Code.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent required.
• Experience supervising and developing professional staff.
• Senior leadership experience in building services consultancy.
• Ability to exercise independent professional judgement.
• Strong knowledge of the NZ Building Code and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of advanced electrical building services projects across sectors.
• Provide independent professional judgement to resolve complex issues.
• Provide senior technical leadership, design review, and quality oversight.
• Lead design, documentation, project review, and construction-phase services.
• Build and maintain trusted client relationships and identify growth opportunities.
• Plan and coordinate team workloads and resources.
• Mentor and develop electrical engineers and designers.
• Work with discipline leads to manage pipeline and resourcing and improve systems.
