Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel (Dispute Resolution) to lead complex litigation and arbitration for a prominent financial services client in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. You will develop strategies, advise on risk, and oversee cost management while mentoring junior staff.

The role requires SA-qualified attorneys with a strong track record in commercial disputes, regulatory matters, and contract law, with readiness to relocate to Queenstown.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience in dispute resolution/litigation.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing complex commercial litigation, debt recovery, and regulatory disputes.
• In-depth knowledge of South African civil procedure, evidence, and relevant statutes.
• Strong negotiation, advocacy, and courtroom skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and conduct complex litigation and arbitration proceedings from initiation to conclusion.
• Develop and implement effective legal strategies for dispute resolution.
• Provide expert legal advice on potential disputes and risk mitigation strategies.
• Draft and file all necessary court documents, pleadings, and applications.
• Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings.
• Liaise with external counsel, experts, and regulatory bodies as required.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis of relevant case law and legislation.
• Advise business units on contractual disputes and compliance issues.
• Manage legal costs and ensure efficient resolution of disputes.
• Mentor and guide junior legal staff involved in dispute resolution.
