Senior DevSecOps Engineer/Engineering Lead

A leading enterprise organisation is seeking an experienced Senior DevSecOps Engineer to improve its software delivery, security and release practices across its New Zealand technology teams.

This is a hands‑on technical role with a strong leadership and stakeholder‑influence component. You’ll work across engineering, testing, platform, delivery and release teams to embed better practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

You’ll be expected to provide direction, influence change and drive initiatives across multiple teams.

About the role

The organisation already has CI/CD pipelines, application-security tooling, code-quality platforms and established engineering processes in place. Your focus will be on assessing the current environment, identifying gaps and implementing practical improvements.

The first three months will be critical. You’ll focus on strengthening source code management, application security, code quality, CI/CD and SDLC controls, helping teams identify defects and risks earlier in the delivery lifecycle.

Key responsibilities
  • Assess the current DevSecOps and software delivery environment.

  • Review and optimise existing CI/CD pipelines and engineering processes.

  • Identify gaps across source control, application security, code quality and release controls.

  • Develop a practical improvement roadmap and implement quick wins.

  • Embed security and quality controls earlier in the SDLC.

  • Reduce late-stage defects, release issues and production incidents.

  • Drive consistent engineering and DevSecOps practices across multiple teams.

  • Work closely with engineering, testing, platform, delivery, release and environment-management teams.

  • Influence stakeholders and encourage teams to adopt improved ways of working.

  • Provide clear plans, recommendations and progress reporting to senior leaders.

  • Explore how AI-assisted development can improve delivery speed, security and quality.

About you

You’ll be a senior DevSecOps, platform engineering or software engineering professional who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to lead through influence.

You’ll have:

  • Strong hands‑on DevSecOps experience within a complex enterprise environment.

  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD pipeline design, implementation and optimisation.

  • Strong experience with source code management and branching strategies.

  • Experience embedding application-security controls into CI/CD pipelines.

  • A solid understanding of code quality, testing and release-management practices.

  • Experience assessing and improving an established SDLC environment.

  • The ability to turn technical findings into practical, achievable improvements.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder-management and influencing skills.

  • Experience working across engineering, testing, platform and delivery functions.

  • The confidence to provide direction and drive outcomes with minimal supervision.

What’s on offer?
  • An initial six‑month contract with the potential for extension.

  • A highly visible role with the opportunity to deliver measurable improvements.

  • Ownership of a significant DevSecOps and engineering uplift.

  • The autonomy to assess the environment, shape the road map and drive implementation.

  • The opportunity to work with senior technical and business stakeholders.

  • A chance to influence engineering practices across a large, complex organisation.

Please note: We can only consider applicants who are already in New Zealand and hold valid working rights.
