Job summary

Auckland Council invites applications for the Senior Manager – Data Engineering role to lead the Data Engineering team and drive the journey to a Modern Data Platform. You will shape the strategy, roadmap and transition from legacy systems to scalable, reliable data solutions enabling trusted insights and automation.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on experience with Snowflake, Databricks, dbt and BI tools, plus a passion for governance, quality and cost optimisation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data/analytics roles within high-maturity organisations.
• 5+ years in senior or technical leadership positions.
• Proven experience leading data migration and platform transformation programs.
• Degree in computer science, information technology, statistics, engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead data engineering strategy and roadmap across Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran and BI.
• Oversee transition from legacy platforms and decommission BI pipelines.
• Establish standards for data ingestion, integration and transformation with governance in mind.
• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing data engineering team.
• Partner with stakeholders, technology teams and vendors to prioritise analytics, automation and ML initiatives.
