Job summary

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead delivery of modern data platforms, pipelines and products that enable analytics and AI. You’ll mentor engineers and shape engineering practices across the Data Chapter, balancing hands-on delivery with strategic leadership.

You’ll drive enterprise-scale design, collaborate across squads and stakeholders, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure and fit for purpose.

Qualifications

• Significant experience designing, building and operating enterprise-scale data platforms and pipelines.
• Advanced SQL and Python with Databricks experience.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms, Lakehouse and medallion architecture patterns.
• Proven ability delivering analytics, BI, ML and AI use cases.
• Experience DataOps, automation, observability and ops excellence.
• Strong data governance, privacy, security, and compliance.
• Ability to influence stakeholders across squads, programmes and technical disciplines.
• Mentoring others and promoting engineering excellence.
