Job summary

Younity is seeking an experienced people leader to head a growing Data Engineering function within NZ's largest and most complex data environments. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of enterprise data capability as the organisation continues its journey towards a modern data platform while bringing together data and analytics capability from across a diverse and evolving business.

You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team and play a key role in developing engineering capability, establishing best practice, driving platform modernisation, and ensuring data teams are set up for long-term success.

About the role

This is a leadership role where success will come from your ability to balance people leadership, technical credibility, stakeholder engagement, and transformation delivery.

• Lead and develop a team of Data Engineers and data professionals, building capability, engagement and technical excellence
• Drive the transition from legacy platforms to a modern cloud-based data ecosystem
• Establish scalable, sustainable and repeatable data engineering standards, frameworks and practices
• Partner with senior stakeholders to align data engineering priorities with business outcomes
• Support the development of enterprise-wide data capability and maturity
• Contribute to data strategy, platform roadmap development and future-state architecture decisions
• Foster a collaborative culture where engineers, analysts and technical specialists can learn from each other and deliver greater impact

You will bring:

• Significant experience leading technical teams within data, analytics or engineering environments
• A strong track record of coaching, mentoring and developing technical professionals
• Experience leading change, transformation, platform modernisation or migration initiatives
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences
• Solid understanding of modern data engineering practices, platforms and data architecture principles
• The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery outcomes
• A genuine passion for building high-performing teams and improving organisational capability
• Experience with technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, Power BI or similar modern data platforms
