Job summary

Port Otago Group is seeking a Data Engineer to lead the ongoing implementation and management of its Microsoft Fabric data platform from the Port Chalmers head office. You will build data pipelines with Python/SQL/APIs, create trusted Power BI reports, and work with external partners to migrate reporting into Fabric.

You will own data governance and security within a Microsoft 365/Azure environment, and partner with a small IT team and MSPs to drive data capability in a port logistics setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience with Microsoft data warehousing and reporting tools including Fabric, Power BI, Python and SQL.
• Experience implementing Microsoft best-practice frameworks (medallion architecture, metadata-driven frameworks, database mirroring)
• Strong Power BI skills including semantic (tabular) models, DAX, row-level security and deployment pipelines
• Knowledge of data governance, security and access control in a Microsoft 365/Azure environment
• Experience working with external consultants, vendors or managed service providers to deliver technical programmes of work

Responsibilities

• Lead ongoing implementation, management and continuous improvement of the Fabric data platform.
• Build and maintain data pipelines from core systems using Python, SQL, APIs and CI/CD.
• Develop, secure and deploy Power BI reports and semantic models for trusted insights.
• Collaborate with users, MSPs and consultants to migrate reporting into Fabric.
• Identify opportunities to extend data capability with new sources, automation and self-service reporting.
• Monitor data quality and pipeline reliability; keep documentation up to date
