Job summary

New World Stanmore in Christchurch is seeking a Senior Checkout Operator for a 30-hour-per-week role. You will be scanning groceries, handling Lotto sales, and supporting the Grocery team during busier periods.

The role requires a reliable team player with strong customer service, the ability to stand for long periods, and the willingness to obtain a Liquor Duty Manager Certificate in the future.

Qualifications

• Relevant checkout experience is required.
• Must be able to obtain Liquor Duty Manager Certificate in the future.
• Passion for excellent customer service and going the extra mile for customers.
• Team player but able to work unassisted within required timeframes.
• Physically fit to be on your feet all day.
• Overseas applicants must hold NZ citizenship, NZ permanent residency or a valid NZ work permit.

Job description

New World Stanmore is a great community supermarket in the heart of Christchurch. We have had an exciting role (30 hours) come available as a Senior Checkout Operator in our store.

Days and hours are:

• Monday 10.30am-7pm (8)
• Thursday 8.30am-5pm (8)
• Sunday 6.45am-3.15pm (8)

The role will involve the following:

• Customer service - scanning and packing groceries
• Lotto sales and tasks
• Overseeing self-scan transactions and assisting customers
• Authorising alcohol/tobacco purchases
• Problem solving
• Stocking shelves/facing up; helping the Grocery team when Checkout is quiet
• Cleaning of checkout areas

The person we are looking for will have the following attributes:

• Have relevant checkout experience
• Currently hold or be able (over 20) and willing to obtain a Liquor Duty Manager Certificate in the future
• Have a passion for giving excellent customer service and going the extra mile for our customers
• Be able to work well in a team, but also be able to complete tasks unassisted in the required timeframe
• Must be able to show initiative and be honest and reliable
• Must have a positive approach to their day and have a ‘can-do’ attitude
• You must also be physically fit as it involves being on your feet all day.
