Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to shape meaningful change across product, operations, technology, risk and design. You will lead analysis from discovery through delivery, defining problems, outcomes and requirements with clear traceability.

This hands-on role requires senior BA experience, strong facilitation, and the ability to navigate ambiguity, while coaching others to strengthen analysis practices and deliver measurable business value in a bank environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in banking and/or consulting environments is advantageous.
• Substantial senior-level Business Analysis delivering complex change.
• Broad toolkit: discovery, requirements, process, data, systems, customer experience, options analysis and impact analysis.
• Future-focused mindset to leverage AI and emerging technologies.
• Experience across Agile, Waterfall and Kanban; adapt approach to context.
• Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Ability to explain complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Comfort working with ambiguity and evidence-driven decisions.
• Collaborative, pragmatic, and outcome-focused with customer value in mind.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery and analysis to define problem, outcomes, scope, constraints and success measures.
• Elicit, analyse, prioritise and document business needs, customer and system requirements.
• Translate needs into clear business and functional requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Analyse current and future-state processes, journeys, and information flows.
• Collaborate with product, delivery, engineering, testers, and designers to refine options and ensure quality delivery.
• Facilitate workshops and decision-making to surface perspectives and build shared understanding.
• Identify dependencies, risks and operational impacts; plan for readiness and change adoption.
• Support business cases, benefits measures and governance artefacts where required.
• Keep analysis current, proportionate and accessible for informed decisions.
• Provide thought leadership with evidence and customer perspectives to complex challenges.
• Coach and mentor analysts and foster continuous improvement of BA practices.
