Job summary

Consult Recruitment in Whangārei seeks a Senior BAS Accountant to take ownership of client work, delivering BAS, financial statements and tax returns while building strong relationships. You will guide junior staff and contribute to advisory projects within a busy NZ practice.

The ideal candidate holds a CA/CPA or is working toward it, with NZ BAS experience, Xero proficiency, and a proactive, client-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Relevant BAS experience in a NZ accounting practice.
• Strong knowledge of NZ accounting and tax requirements.
• CA or CPA qualification, or progressing toward completion.
• Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for business clients.
• Proficiency with Xero and other accounting systems.
• Strong communication and client relationship skills.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently.
• Interest in developing advisory skills and mentoring juniors.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, and management accounts.
• Manage day-to-day client relationships and respond to queries.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow analysis for clients.
• Help clients understand financial results and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Manage assignments to meet deadlines and maintain high quality.
