Job summary

Crossware Auckland is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems used in real-world production environments. You will work on systems serving thousands of customers, focusing on performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Requires 3+ years of relevant experience with C# and .NET, APIs, and cloud platforms (Azure). The role emphasizes collaboration with product and support teams and ongoing modernization of legacy components.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of relevant professional software development experience.
• Strong experience in software design, application development and system integration.
• Experience with APIs, web services and third-party system integrations.
• Good understanding of relational databases, architecture and data structures.
• Experience with software testing, debugging and production fault diagnosis.
• Understanding of secure software development principles, authentication, encryption and data security.
• Experience with version control and modern software development practices.
• Ability to analyse complex technical requirements and translate into practical software solutions.
• Strong technical documentation skills and good communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using C# and .NET.
• Develop and maintain APIs (RESTful and/or event-driven).
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design decisions.
• Ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability of production systems.
• Debug and resolve complex issues across backend, frontend, and cloud environments.
• Work with legacy systems and modernisation efforts.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, and support teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Contribute to code quality, testing, and deployment practices.
