Job summary

Ipayroll is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own backend services for payments, multi-currency balances, and onboarding in a cloud-first fintech environment. You will lead platform capabilities from design to production, while mentoring engineers and driving modernization initiatives.

The role emphasizes AWS, microservices, architecture decisions, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Hybrid work and travel to Christchurch may be required.

Qualifications

• 6 to 10+ years of experience building and operating production-grade backend services end-to-end.
• Strong backend development experience with C#/.NET; Java/Kotlin/Go also acceptable.
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.
• Experience developing and executing automated tests as part of SDLC.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and modern cloud development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own backend services for payments, multi-currency balances, onboarding, compliance, settlement.
• Lead delivery of platform capabilities from problem definition to production launch.
• Build and maintain partner integrations and settlement infrastructure.
• Own production health, observability, incident response, and on-call support.
• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Operations, Architecture, and Engineering teams.
