Job summary

BNZ in Auckland is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of our Cards API and integration estate. You will shape architecture, drive reliability, and partner with platform ownership across BNZ Technology to deliver enterprise-grade API solutions.

You will mentor API engineers, oversee API contracts, event schemas, and gateway security (Kong), and work across Cards, Merchant, and enterprise services to balance dependences and deliver scalable outcomes in a fast-moving

Qualifications

• Hands-on Java and Spring Boot for enterprise API services.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs, contracts, and gateway-based integration with Kong.
• Proficient with containerisation and build tools (Gradle, Docker) and部署 on OpenShift/EKS.
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket, Jenkins, Spinnaker) and Vault.
• Experience with messaging (IBM MQ, Kafka) and PostgreSQL/Aurora.
• Solid testing with JUnit, REST Assured, TestNG.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical decision-making across the API estate and drive scalable API solutions.
• Improve API quality, risk reduction, and enterprise interfaces.
• Mentor API engineers on design, patterns, and standards.
• Investigate issues and guide teams to scalable resolutions.
• Collaborate with Platform Owners, Architecture, and leadership to align priorities.
