Job summary

BNZ in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Developer to join the Cards & Merchants team to design, build, and support secure APIs and integration services across the Cards API and enterprise estate. You will own end-to-end delivery, implement RESTful contracts, authentication, and data mapping, and work with product, architecture, and security stakeholders to ensure reliability and production readiness.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Expertise in Java and Spring Boot for enterprise-grade APIs.
• Experience with API gateway and authentication patterns.
• Ability to design, build, test, and operate APIs in production.
• Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complex API features end-to-end for Cards API and enterprise integration.
• Build secure, resilient API solutions with authentication and data mapping.
• Own quality, risk, and production readiness, including automated testing.
• Lead through delivery, review code, mentor developers.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, engineering, security stakeholders.
• Use AI tools to accelerate analysis and development.
