Job description

  • Build your career in Gisborne within a supportive, values-led school
  • Smaller classes with the opportunity to really know your learners
  • Modern, technology-enabled approach to teaching

I’m working with a well-established, independent secondary school in Gisborne looking for an experienced Maths teacher to join their team.
This is an opportunity to work in a smaller, structured learning environment where relationships are important, teachers are well supported, and technology is genuinely embedded into the way students learn.
You’ll teach Mathematics across Years 9–13, with a mix of face-to-face and online teaching as part of an established, technology-enabled learning model.
You’ll be based onsite at the school, working alongside your colleagues and supporting students through both in-person and online lessons.
Technology is an important part of how learning is delivered, so this role will suit someone who is digitally confident, adaptable, and comfortable engaging students in an online classroom as well as face-to-face.
It’s a great opportunity if you enjoy trying different approaches to teaching while still having the structure, relationships, and connection of being part of a school each day.

What the Role Looks Like

Could This Be You?

We’re looking for an experienced NZ teacher who brings strong Maths knowledge, but just as importantly, is adaptable and willing to embrace a modern approach to teaching.

You’ll ideally have:
  • Current NZ Teacher Registration and Practising Certificate
  • Recent teaching experience within a New Zealand secondary school
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of NCEA
  • Confidence teaching Mathematics across junior and senior levels
  • Strong digital capability and confidence delivering lessons online
  • A relationship-focused approach to teaching
  • The ability to work collaboratively while managing your own classroom responsibilities
NZ classroom experience is important for this role, with recent NCEA experience strongly preferred.
What You Can Look Forward To
  • Smaller classes and more individualised learning
  • Competitive remuneration recognising your experience
  • Strong leadership, established systems and teaching resources
  • Technology already embedded into the learning model
  • Ongoing professional learning and development
  • A supportive, collegial working environment
  • Opportunities to continue developing your teaching career
Why Gisborne?

If you’ve been considering a move away from one of the bigger centres, Gisborne could offer the balance you’re looking for.
You can build your career in a supportive school environment while enjoying everything the region is known for - coast, community and a more relaxed way of life.
This could be particularly appealing if you’re looking for something different from a traditional large secondary school, without giving up the professional support and resources around you.
