Job summary

Kordia in Wellington is seeking a skilled Rigging Technician to install, maintain and upgrade telecommunications towers and related hardware across New Zealand. This hands-on role requires safety-first practices and strong fault-finding abilities, with opportunities to travel to diverse sites.

You will join a safety‑minded field team, report to the Rigging Team Lead, and contribute to projects across greenfield and brownfield sites while delivering high‑quality workmanship.

Qualifications

  • This role requires solid rigging experience with safety‑first practices.
  • Experience with telecommunications infrastructure is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work to specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, inspect and repair towers, antenna systems and related equipment.
  • Deliver greenfield and brownfield construction, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Complete cable installation, fibre termination, grounding and commissioning.
  • Test and fault-find equipment, escalating complex issues as needed.
  • Perform working‑at‑height activities safely per Kordia procedures.
  • Support planned and reactive maintenance with minimal customer disruption.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and subcontractors.
  • Contribute ideas to improve safety, quality and efficiency across field ops.

You’ll work on telecommunications infrastructure that helps keep New Zealand connected. From towers and antenna systems to microwave links and cabling, you’ll deliver installation, maintenance, upgrade and repair work across both greenfield and brownfield sites.

This is a hands‑on field role where safety, technical quality and workmanship matter. You’ll work across planned projects and reactive maintenance, testing and fault finding equipment, resolving technical issues and completing work to engineering and customer requirements. You’ll also have the opportunity to travel throughout New Zealand and work across a variety of telecommunications sites.

Reporting to the Rigging Team Lead, you’ll be part of our Wellington Field Operations team, delivering safe, reliable rigging services across Kordia’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, maintaining, inspecting and repairing towers, antenna systems, microwave links, cabling and associated telecommunications equipment
  • Delivering greenfield and brownfield construction, upgrades, maintenance and decommissioning to engineering specifications
  • Completing cable installation, fibre termination, grounding, labelling and equipment commissioning to required standards
  • Testing, diagnosing and fault finding equipment, escalating complex technical issues when required
  • Carrying out working‑at‑height activities safely and in line with Kordia procedures and legislative requirements
  • Supporting planned and reactive maintenance while minimising disruption to customer services
  • Building strong working relationships with customers and subcontractors, communicating progress, risks and issues clearly
  • Contributing practical ideas that improve safety, quality, efficiency and consistency across our field operations

Nā tōu rourou - What you will bring

We’re looking for someone with solid rigging experience, strong safety awareness and a commitment to getting the technical details right. You'll also bring:

  • Around 2+ years’ rigging experience, ideally within telecommunications, broadcasting, technology or a related industry
  • Experience installing and maintaining telecommunications infrastructure
  • Working at Heights and Rescue from Heights certifications
  • First Aid certification
  • An NZQA recognised telecommunications or rigging qualification is preferred
  • Elevated Work Platform certification is desirable
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, with strong fault-finding skills
  • A full, clean driver licence and the ability to travel throughout New Zealand and work away from home when required
  • The capability to undertake physically demanding work and work safely at heights
