Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking an experienced Rigger to ensure the safe lifting, positioning and securing of steel structures during erection of fabricated buildings. This role requires a high level of rigging skill, strict safety adherence and effective teamwork to complete projects on time and to specification.

The Rigger will work closely with crane operators, assist in gear setup, and read erection drawings to follow instructions with precision.

Qualifications

  • Rigging experience with safe erection of steel structures.
  • Knowledge of rigging techniques and load calculations.
  • Ability to read erection drawings and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all rigging tasks for safe erection of steel structures.
  • Secure loads using appropriate lifting equipment per load calculations.
  • Coordinate with crane operators for safe lifting operations.
  • Direct crane movements and ensure correct positioning of steel components.
  • Set up lifting gear, hoists and other rigging equipment as required.
  • Align and position structural steel members per drawings and specs.
  • Bolt up and secure connections adhering to tolerances.
  • Assist welding prep and maintain safe work areas.
  • Use hand and power tools to assemble components safely.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and site regulations.

The Rigger is responsible for the safe and efficient lifting, positioning, and securing of steel structures during the erection of fabricated buildings. This role requires a high level of skill in rigging techniques, adherence to safety protocols, and effective teamwork to ensure projects are completed on time, to specification, and in alignment with the company's high standards.

Key responsibilities

Perform all rigging tasks required for the safe erection of steel structures.

Secure loads using slings, chains, and lifting equipment in accordance with load calculations.

Work closely with crane operators to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.

Direct crane movements and ensure correct positioning of steel components.

Assist in setting up lifting gear, hoists, and other rigging equipment as per site requirements.

Align and position structural steel members as per drawings and specifications.

Bolt up and secure connections while ensuring compliance with engineering tolerances.

Assist in welding preparation, including setting up work areas and securing materials.

Use hand and power tools to complete assembly tasks safely and efficiently.

Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with site regulations.

About you

High-risk Work License – Rigging (Intermediate or Advanced preferred).

Minimum 2 years of experience in structural steel rigging.

Dogman ticket (preferred).

Working at Heights certification.

Elevated Work Platform (EWP) license (preferred).

On site welding and fabrication experience.

Experience with cranes, loading and unloading trucks.

Must be able to read marking plans / erection drawings and follow instructions.

Good record with Health and Safety.

  • Telehandler / forklift experience.

  • Must be able to read marking plans / erection drawings and follow instructions.

  • Good record with Health and Safety.

Willing to work overtime and available to work away from time to time.
