Mountain Jade – Auckland airport, North Island
We’re a small, family-run business made up of crafters and carvers. Since 1986, we’ve grown from humble roots to become a leader in the creation of handcrafted jade carvings.
While we’ve grown since those early days, Mountain Jade is still run by family, with family values at our core.
For three generations, we’ve shaped jade by hand into designs that honour the stone’s cultural past while exploring a future that’s less familiar. We take pride in our process, our pieces, and our people.
We now have an exciting fixed-term opportunity for a Retail Shift Manager to join our Auckland team, primarily based at our Mānawa Bay store.

As Retail Shift Manager, you’ll take a hands-on leadership role in the day-to-day running of the store and your shifts.
You’ll lead from the shop floor — driving sales, supporting and coaching the team, maintaining strong operational standards, and ensuring every customer receives the exceptional experience Mountain Jade is known for.
This is a fixed-term position covering a period of leave, making it a great opportunity for an experienced retailer or emerging leader looking to step into a management role and gain valuable leadership experience.
Lead by example in delivering outstanding customer experiences and achieving store sales targets.
Take ownership of your shift and provide clear direction to the team.
Coach, support, and motivate Sales Assistants on the shop floor.
Support the Retail Sales Manager and Operations Manager with the successful operation of the store.
Oversee opening and closing procedures and other daily store operations.
Assign and monitor daily tasks, ensuring operational and administrative requirements are completed.
Maintain high standards of store presentation, merchandising, compliance, and stock management.
Confidently manage customer enquiries and help resolve issues when required.
Monitor store performance throughout your shift and respond proactively to opportunities.
Provide clear written shift reports and handovers to management.
Help create a friendly, supportive and high-performing team environment.
This is a customer-facing leadership role, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys being present on the shop floor rather than managing from the back office.
$29.70 – $30.70 per hour, depending on experience.
An achievable and generous monthly team bonus scheme.
Paid staff parking at Mānawa Bay.
Generous staff discounts across all Mountain Jade products.
Ongoing training in jade, jewellery, product knowledge and sales techniques.
Leadership experience within an established New Zealand retail business.
Work with unique handcrafted pieces and share their stories with customers from New Zealand and around the world.
Join a supportive, family-run business where our people, customers and craft genuinely matter.
We’re looking for someone who has:
Previous retail leadership, supervisory, keyholder or senior retail experience.
A strong sales mindset and proven ability to deliver results.
Confidence leading, coaching and motivating others.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
The ability to take ownership and make good decisions during a shift.
A calm and proactive approach to problem-solving.
High standards of presentation and professionalism.
Confidence handling customer concerns and working towards positive outcomes.
Reliability and flexibility to work across weekends, public holidays and varying retail hours.
Respect for all cultures, with confidence and willingness to correctly use and pronounce Te Reo Māori.
Experience in jewellery, luxury goods, tourism or collectibles would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. We’ll provide full training in jade, our products and the Mountain Jade story.
If you’re a natural people leader who loves retail, enjoys achieving results and wants the opportunity to take ownership of a store shift, we’d love to hear from you.
