Job summary

D2B, an established Christchurch-based foundation specialist led by an owner with over 25 years of construction experience, is seeking a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to work remotely. You’ll review drawings for residential foundations, prepare accurate quantity take-offs and competitive quotes, and help the team price concrete, reinforcement, insulation, formwork and earthworks.

Qualifications

• Review architectural, structural and engineering drawings for residential foundations and prepare accurate quantity take-offs.
• Measure and price the elements of each job, including concrete, reinforcing steel and mesh, insulation or pods, formwork, earthworks and hardfill, and plumbing provisions.
• Prepare clear, competitive quotes using pricing.
• Keep up with high quote volumes, turning plans around quickly and following up quotes that haven't been accepted.
• Raise questions with team and the builder on missing information, unclear drawings or risks, rather than guessing.
• Keep quotes, drawings and job files organized in OneDrive and in the construction management platform (Obstra).

Responsibilities

• Prepare clear, competitive quotes using pricing.
• Keep up with high quote volumes, turning plans around quickly and following up quotes that haven't been accepted.
• Raise questions with team and the builder on missing information, unclear drawings or risks, rather than guessing.
• Gather and compare supplier and subcontractor prices, and keep the pricing database up to date.
• Build and maintain estimating spreadsheets and templates, so quotes are consistent and reusable.
• Support job costing by handing accepted quotes across to the operations side with complete scope details.
• Keep quotes, drawings and job files organized in OneDrive and in Obstra as the system rolls out.
• Help set up and document the quoting process so the estimating function runs smoothly as volume grows.
• Handle related admin as needed, with potential to take on lead generation and supplier and subcontractor liaison over time.
• Be quick to learn pricing and systems, self-directed and reliable under a high workload.
• Proactively flag issues and ask the right questions early.
• Be organized and methodical, keeping files and quotes easy to find.
• Commit to a long-term role that can grow with the business.
