Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Remote Geotechnical Engineer to join their team, providing expert analysis for mining projects across the region, including Queenstown. This role focuses on assessing ground conditions, slope stability, and underground support design, all managed remotely to support major developments.

You will analyze geotechnical data, run numerical models with the Rocscience suite or similar, and prepare comprehensive reports for safe mine infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of geotechnical experience with mining applications.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical analysis and modeling software (Slide, Phase2, FLAC).

  • Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyze soil and rock mechanics data.
  • Perform stability analyses for open pit slopes and underground excavations.
  • Design and recommend ground support systems for underground mine development.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a qualified Remote Geotechnical Engineer to join their team, providing expert analysis and recommendations for their mining projects across the Eastern Cape, including operations near Queenstown. This role will focus on assessing ground conditions, slope stability, and the design of underground support systems, all conducted from a remote location. You will analyze geotechnical data, perform numerical modeling, and prepare comprehensive reports to ensure the safety and stability of mine infrastructure. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced geotechnical professional to contribute their expertise remotely to significant mining developments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyze soil and rock mechanics data.
  • Perform stability analyses for open pit slopes and underground excavations.
  • Design and recommend ground support systems for underground mine development.
  • Develop geotechnical models using specialized software (e.g., Rocscience suite).
  • Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, including recommendations and risk assessments.

Requirements
  • MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mining applications.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis and modeling software (e.g., Slide, Phase2, FLAC).
  • Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and groundwater interactions.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills for remote collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
