Job summary

NZTA | Waka Kotahi in New Zealand seeks a Principal Advisor Regulatory System Design to lead system-level interventions that improve safety and performance of the land transport regulatory system. You will guide design, provide strategic advice, and influence practice across the organisation.

The role requires strong leadership, data-driven insights and collaboration with multiple stakeholders to deliver coherent regulatory responses and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Expertise in regulatory system design and system-level interventions.
• Deep understanding of modern regulatory systems and frameworks.
• Strong project management across multiple stakeholders.
• Data-driven approach to assess system performance and risks.
• Strategic and analytical thinker with clear communication.
• Willingness to understand Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Responsibilities

• Use data, evidence and analysis to understand regulatory framework and system performance.
• Lead and design system-level regulatory interventions to improve safety and coherence.
• Provide thought leadership on development and implementation of responses to complex issues.
