Job summary

NZTA | Waka Kotahi is seeking a highly experienced Principal Advisor to lead performance monitoring and reporting across the land transport regulatory system. Based in Wellington, you will provide objective oversight and strategic advice to senior leaders and governance bodies, enabling effective decision-making and risk management.

The role requires demonstrated expertise in performance monitoring, reporting, assurance and public sector accountability, with strong written, verbal and visual

Qualifications

• Experience leading performance monitoring and reporting in complex environments.
• Strong systems and strategic thinking to anticipate regulatory system impacts.
• Excellent written, verbal and visual communication tailored for senior leaders and ministers.
• Proven stakeholder engagement and influencing across networks.
• Experience in regulatory/public sector environments and government accountability.
• Support assurance, monitoring, reporting or quality improvement in a complex organisation.
• Degree or equivalent with senior regulatory/public service exposure including QA.
• Knowledge of Te Ao Māori, tikanga and Te Reo Māori.
• Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in public sector applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead regular performance reporting on the regulatory system with evidence of strengths and risks.
• Provide robust monitoring and reporting to NZTA leadership and governance bodies (Regulatory, Executive and Board).
• Offer strategic advice and recommendations to senior executives, Boards and Ministers.
• Prepare concise reporting and briefings for executive audiences, timely and aligned with NZTA strategy.
• Provide evidence-based insights and recommendations to senior leaders and managers.
• Build relationships across regulatory, transport and public sector networks for insight sharing.
