Job summary

Synlait is seeking a Quality Compliance Manager for a fixed-term maternity cover role in Canterbury, New Zealand. You will drive China SAMR registration renewal, maintain audit readiness, and collaborate across the business to close quality and compliance actions.

The ideal candidate will fluently communicate in English and Mandarin, translate complex requirements, and support teams with clear records and processes to meet regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

• Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese to support SAMR audits and translation.
• Experience in quality and compliance within dairy, infant formula, food manufacturing, FMCG or a related regulated industry.
• Knowledge of food safety, quality systems and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support China SAMR registration renewal quality activities and compliance requirements.
• Lead renewal activities and ensure teams understand quality expectations for audits.
• Follow up audit actions and track progress to show completion of compliance tasks.
• Review procedures, reports and documents to ensure clarity and readiness for audits or reviews.
• Help teams understand the quality/compliance information needed for projects and audits.

Guided by our Synlait Spirit, we’re looking for a Quality Compliance Manager to join our team in a fixed-term maternity cover role. This role will support our China SAMR registration renewal work, help keep us audit-ready, and work with teams across the business to close out important quality and compliance actions.

The successful candidate will be able to understand detailed compliance requirements, explain them clearly in both languages, and translate them into practical actions. You will work closely with teams across the business to ensure the right records, processes, and supporting information are in place when needed.

This opportunity is ideal for a quality and compliance professional who is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll help keep important quality and compliance work moving, including China SAMR registration renewal, audit readiness and wider compliance activities.

You’ll:

• Support communication in English and Mandarin Chinese, including reviewing translated documents and helping teams prepare clear information for SAMR audits.
• Lead China SAMR registration renewal quality related activities and help the business understand and meet related quality and compliance requirements.
• Follow up audit actions, track progress and help gather the information needed to show that all relevant actions for compliance and audit readiness, including SAMR, have been completed.
• Where needed for Compliance tasks and in preparation for audits, review procedures, reports and supporting documents to make sure they are clear, complete and ready to share during audits or reviews.
• Support business projects by helping teams understand the quality and compliance information they need to consider.
• Help teams prepare for audits by explaining what information may be needed and how to present it clearly.
• Support the business to strengthen quality and compliance by helping identify gaps, tracking improvement actions, and promoting audit-ready and compliant ways of working across Synlait

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who brings sound quality and compliance experience, strong follow-through and the ability to work well with a range of people.

You’ll have:

• Fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English is essential for this role, with the ability to support clear technical communication between teams.
• Significant experience in quality and compliance within dairy, infant formula, food manufacturing, FMCG or a related regulated industry.
• Experience preparing for audits, following up actions and checking that the right supporting information is available.
• Knowledge of food safety, quality systems and regulatory requirements. Experience with China market requirements would be an advantage.
• A relevant tertiary qualification and formal auditing qualification.
• Confidence working across different teams, building good relationships and following up actions to completion.
• Good attention to detail when reviewing documents, reports, action lists and translated information.
