Job summary

Access Community Health in Burwood, Christchurch is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to build a meaningful, long-term relationship with one client. You will provide safe, respectful, and person-centred care, honoring culture, routines, and boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification or have equivalent, relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting spinal cord injury and bowel management/manual bowel care.
  • Restricted or full driver’s licence.
  • The right to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and daily routines (morning and evening).
  • Assist with mobility, transfers and safe use of hoists (as trained).
  • Support passive exercises and positioning for comfort and wellbeing.
  • Prepare meals and provide nutritional support.
  • Facilitate community outings, companionship and social connection.

  • Confident and safe with working with hoists
  • Comfortable supporting more complex needs and following care plans
  • Be willing to learn, reflect, and adapt your approach to what matters for each person
  • Have experience in or exposure to caregiving, disability support, aged care, community work, or other people-facing roles
  • Committed to culturally safe, respectful support for people from all backgrounds
  • Restricted or full driver’s licence
  • The right to work in New Zealand

Our KaiāwhinaSkills Framework training takes place during your first two‑four weeks of employment and builds on your current experience to provide care to our valued clients the Access way. We provide year‑round training with regular refreshers and new modules to keep your skills up to date. You’ll be supported through structured induction, ongoing training, refreshers, and clear development pathways.
