Job summary

Best Start is seeking passionate Montessori ECE Assistants to join our early childhood education team. This role supports the teaching team to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children aged 0 to 6. The position offers a starting pay of NZD 26–30 per hour, fixed by experience, for at least 30 hours per week, with overtime paid at the same rate.

New Zealand teacher registration is not required. We value caring, patient individuals who collaborate and grow within the Montessori philosophy

Qualifications

• Two years of Montessori education experience or AMI/AMS qualification.
• Caring, patient, and dedicated approach to children.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to pass police vetting and pre-employment checks.

About the role
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Montessori ECE Assistants to join our early childhood education team. This is a support role working alongside our teaching team to provide a safe, positive and nurturing environment for children. New Zealand teacher registration is not required for this position. Starting pay offered from $ 26 to $ 30 hourly will be fixed according to experience for at least 30 hours a week; however, this will be reviewed periodically. Any overtime will be paid at the above pay rate.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Supervising and caring for children aged 0 to 6 during daily activities in a Montessori classroom, while supporting the implementation of Montessori principles;
• Assisting with Montessori-based learning activities and classroom routines;
• Supporting children’s social, emotional and physical development;
• Helping prepare learning materials and maintaining a clean, safe and organised learning environment;
• Assisting children with meals, hygiene and other daily routines;
• Observing children, documenting relevant information, and communicating observations to teaching staff;
• Fostering positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues;
• Upholding the centre’s health, safety and child protection policies.

Requirements

• At least two years of relevant work experience in a Montessori education setting; or
• A recognised Montessori teaching qualification, such as AMI, AMS, or equivalent.
• A caring, patient, and dedicated approach to children’s growth;
• Strong communication and teamwork skills;
• Willingness to collaborate and grow within the Montessori philosophy;
• Ability to pass police vetting and pre-employment checks.
