Job summary

Selwyn District Council's Arts, Culture and Lifelong Learning Team invites applications for a Community Library Service Centre Assistant in Rolleston. In this front-facing role you will work with people, technology, books and programs, and help visitors access library and council services.

This 22-hour-per-week role includes shifts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Full training is provided, and you will help create a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment while connecting communities with

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills to host a diverse range of people
• Confident communicator with cultural competency
• Enjoy working with others and relate to a wide range of people, including tamariki and rangatahi
• Reliability and taking initiative
• Strong digital skills along with a good understanding of the kaupapa of a modern public library service
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of Te Ao Māori
• 42 points at NCEA level 3 (University Entrance or equivalent)
• A New Zealand driver's licence

Responsibilities

• Welcoming and interacting with people from all ages and walks of life
• Proactively engaging visitors to maintain an atmosphere that feels safe and inclusive for all
• Providing technology assistance and help with digital resources
• Assisting the community with council and library services
• Helping people connect to central government and wider community services through the Heartlands initiative
• Finding, recommending, and shelving books and helping to keep our collections looking great
