Job summary

Downer in Hamilton is seeking an experienced Project Manager - Structures and Capital to lead maintenance, renewals and capital works while prioritising safety, sustainability and client satisfaction.

You will manage planning, budgeting and reporting across multiple projects, build strong relationships with Hamilton City Council, NZTA, suppliers and contractors, and drive a high-performance, zero-harm culture.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering infrastructure projects including civil construction or maintenance.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge.
• Ability to manage planning, budgeting, and reporting across multiple projects.

Are you an experienced project manager with a passion for delivering infrastructure that shapes your community? Downer is looking for a Project Manager - Structures and Capital to join our high-performing Connect Hamilton team.

In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for the strategic planning and successful delivery of structures, features, amenities maintenance, and capital works. You'll lead programmes that prioritise safety, sustainability, and customer satisfaction - all while building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver maintenance, renewals, and capital projects on time, on budget, and to the highest standards.
• Lead the planning, budgeting, and reporting functions across multiple projects.
• Drive a high-performance and safety-first culture within your team and contractors.
• Foster strong relationships with Hamilton City Council, NZTA, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Manage tendering processes, procurement strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Business, or a related field (preferred).
• Proven project management experience in civil construction or infrastructure maintenance.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge.
• A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset and a drive for continuous improvement.
• Commitment to Zero Harm and sustainability practices.
