Job summary

Waimakariri District Council in Rangiora seeks a Project Engineer to join the Utilities Projects Team. You will oversee Water Services and Stormwater capital works, coordinating with staff, consultants, contractors and iwi to deliver projects that enhance community infrastructure.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil or Natural Resources Engineer degree (or equivalent) with 3+ years’ relevant experience, strong technical and communication skills, and knowledge of NZS 3910 contract administration.

  • 3+ years delivering civil, water, wastewater, and/or stormwater projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and support in delivering Water Services and Stormwater Capital Works.
  • Manage projects from investigation and design through procurement, construction, and completion.
  • Collaborate with staff, consultants, contractors, iwi, and stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Contribute to infrastructure that benefits communities long-term.

Waimakariri District is one of the fastest-growing districts in New Zealand and the third largest by population in the South Island. The Council is seeking a Project Engineer to work within the Utilities Projects Team as part of the Project Delivery Unit, based in Rangiora. The Project Delivery Unit provides asset management and engineering planning, design, delivery and development consultancy services to the Utilities and Roading Department, Green Space Team, and the wider Council.

In this key position you will take responsibility for:

  • Providing technical expertise and support in the ongoing delivery of the Council Water Services and Stormwater Capital Works Program
  • Manage projects from investigation and design through to procurement, construction and completion
  • Work closely with Council staff, consultants, contractors, iwi, and stakeholders to achieve outstanding project outcomes
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in a way that protects and enhances the environment
  • Contribute to infrastructure that improves the wellbeing of our communities for generations to come

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Civil or Natural Resources Engineer, or hold an alternative relevant tertiary qualification with technical expertise in Engineering
  • Have 3+ years working experience delivering civil, water, wastewater, and/or stormwater infrastructure projects.
  • Have strong technical, project management, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Have knowledge of NZS 3910 contract administration.
  • Have experience in three waters design and construction
