Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Plants for its client in Queenstown. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and managing process safety management systems across chemical processing activities to uphold top safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a chemical engineering background with 5+ years in process safety, hands-on PHA/LOPA experience, and strong leadership to promote a safety culture across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in process safety engineering in chemical industry.
• Experience with PHAs and risk assessments.
• Knowledge of PSM elements (MOC, PSSR, mechanical integrity, emergency preparedness).
• Familiarity with OSHA PSM and COMAH standards.
• Strong analytical and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA studies.
• Develop and review Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with all local and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to plant personnel.
• Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for all safety-related modifications.
• Maintain safety-related documentation, including P&IDs, safety procedures, and risk registers.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to integrate safety into all aspects of plant design and operation.
• Perform regular safety audits and inspections of plant facilities.
