Job summary

Tonkin & Taylor Limited in New Zealand is seeking a Principal Water + Wastewater Engineer or Hydraulic Modeller to lead our water networks planning, modelling and design across the country. You will guide project teams, develop robust hydraulic models, and shape resilient infrastructure strategies for communities.

You will work with experienced engineers and specialists across T+T, expanding your expertise in planning, modelling and design while mentoring junior staff and growing client

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Engineering or related.
• 15 years' water/wastewater design or hydraulic modelling for Principal role, or 5+ years for modelling-focused role.
• Experience in consultancy or local government is an advantage.
• Experience in network modelling, hydraulic analysis, infrastructure planning or design.
• Ability to interpret and quality-check engineering, GIS and asset data.
• Experience using hydraulic modelling software, GIS, CAD or similar tools.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Clear communication of technical information.
• Collaborative approach and sound professional judgement.
• Desire to grow others' capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead proposals, project planning and business development.
• Lead water supply and wastewater projects from planning through design and delivery.
• Develop, update and review hydraulic network models.
• Assess network performance, capacity and resilience.
• Support growth planning and infrastructure investment decisions.
• Develop network strategies and masterplans.
• Investigate constraints and evaluate improvements.
• Develop designs for concept to detailed stages for water and wastewater.
• Prepare and review technical reports and calculations.
• Collaborate with clients, project teams and technical specialists.
• Mentor junior staff and share knowledge across teams.
