Job summary

Tonkin + Taylor in New Zealand seeks a Principal Water + Wastewater Engineer or Hydraulic Modeller to lead our water networks teams. You’ll help clients understand network performance today and plan for the future, guiding planning, modelling and design for renewals and new infrastructure.

You’ll work with experienced colleagues across NZ offices, develop proposals, lead project planning, and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Engineering or related discipline.
• 15 years' water/wastewater design or 5+ years modelling experience for a hydraulic modeller.
• Experience in consultancy or local government is a plus.
• Experience in network modelling, hydraulic analysis, infrastructure planning, strategies or design.
• Ability to interpret and quality-check engineering, GIS and asset data.
• Experience using hydraulic modelling software, GIS, CAD or similar engineering tools.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Clear communication of technical information.
• Collaborative approach and sound professional judgement.
• Leadership skills and passion for growing others.

Responsibilities

• Lead proposals, project planning and business development.
• Lead water supply and wastewater projects from planning through design and delivery.
• Develop, update and review hydraulic network models.
• Assess network performance, capacity and resilience.
• Support growth planning and infrastructure investment decisions.
• Develop network strategies and masterplans.
• Investigate constraints and evaluate improvement options.
• Lead design development for concept to detailed stages.
• Prepare and review reports, calculations and technical deliverables.
• Mentor junior staff and share knowledge across teams.
