Westpac NZ is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the evolution of our enterprise-wide strategic platform. This is a senior technical and leadership role, responsible for shaping architecture, driving engineering excellence, and ensuring robust security across Microsoft Power Platform, Dynamics 365 (D365), and Azure with experience in delivery AI Projects.

You’ll set the technical direction for scalable, resilient, and secure systems, foster collaboration across Agile squads, and mentor

Qualifications

• Proven leadership of high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on clarity, purpose, and growth mindset.
• Strategic architectural vision: Define and implement enterprise architecture, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with business goals.
• Ownership of the full development lifecycle: From planning to delivery, with emphasis on performance, reliability, and operational suitability.
• Advanced team management: Mentor and coach engineers, foster transparency, and build strong relationships across squads, business teams, and technical leads.
• Collaboration: Work seamlessly with design, QA, product, and engineering leadership, and facilitate cross-team commitments.
• Technical excellence: Passion for clean, maintainable, and well-tested code; drive code quality through rigorous reviews and automation frameworks.
• Continuous improvement: Champion modernization, DevOps, and professional development; encourage innovative practices and upskilling.
• Troubleshooting and root-cause analysis: Lead diagnosis of complex production issues and drive effective resolution.
• Documentation and communication: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation; communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Understanding of security: High level understanding of secure software design, compliance, and best practices for protecting data and systems.
