Job summary

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi invites a seasoned Principal Advisor, Performance and Reporting to join Te Rōpū Waeture – Regulatory Group in Wellington. You will lead performance reporting and provide objective, evidence-based insights to senior leaders and governance bodies.

Ideally you bring strong experience in performance monitoring, regulatory systems, and strategic advisory within the public sector, with a proven ability to influence at senior levels and deliver high-quality reporting

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading performance monitoring and reporting in complex environments.
• Strong systems and strategic thinking to anticipate impacts across a regulatory system.
• Critical thinking and analytical skills with methodologies to support performance reporting.
• Experience providing assurance over performance information and interrogating data for accuracy.
• Working knowledge of SharePoint Lists and Power BI.
• Excellent written, verbal and visual communication tailored for executive audiences.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Experience in a regulatory environment with government accountability frameworks.
• A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent senior regulatory/public service experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead regular performance reporting on the regulatory system, providing evidence of strengths, risks and areas requiring improvement.
• Ensure robust monitoring and reporting to NZTA leadership and Regulatory Governance Bodies, including Executives and Board.
• Demonstrate experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior executives, Boards, Ministers.
• Excellent written, verbal and visual communication, tailor messages for Executive, Board and Ministerial audiences; ensure timely outputs.
• Provide oversight and assurance over performance information, check data accuracy, completeness and consistency.
• Provide evidence-based insights and recommendations to senior leaders and managers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across regulatory, transport and public sector networks.
• High-level stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across internal and external networks.
• Champion risk-informed regulation by embedding hindsight, insight and foresight into decision-making.
