Job summary

NZTA is seeking a regulatory planning, performance improvement professional to help ensure the regulatory system operates safely and efficiently across Aotearoa. The role focuses on planning, reporting and performance insights to support better decision-making.

You will work with multiple teams, deliver evidence-based advice, and contribute to governance and reporting processes while promoting Te Ao Māori principles in public sector outcomes.

We are looking for someone who brings curiosity, sound judgement and strong advisory skills. You will be confident working with data, people and ambiguity, and able to turn information into clear advice that supports good decisions and practical action.

You will bring:

• A good understanding of regulatory systems, government processes or complex operational environments.
• Experience supporting planning, prioritisation or coordination across multiple teams or work programmes.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and identify trends, risks and opportunities.
• Experience contributing to performance monitoring, reporting, assurance or governance processes.
• The ability to provide clear, structured and evidence-based advice that helps people make decisions.
• Strong relationship and engagement skills, with the ability to work well across teams and functions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, dashboards and briefings.
• Good judgement, attention to detail and a proactive approach to solving problems in ambiguous settings.
• Working knowledge of project or programme delivery approaches would be useful.

This role would suit someone with experience in a regulatory, government or complex operational environment who enjoys using planning, reporting and analysis to support better outcomes.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in the public sector
