Job summary

AECOM Auckland is seeking an emerging Primary Electrical Engineer to join the Transmission & Distribution team. You’ll contribute to concept and detailed design for primary systems and substations, supporting projects across NZ and potentially internationally.

Based in Auckland, you’ll collaborate with senior engineers and leaders to grow your electrical engineering skills while delivering safe, compliant designs for critical energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in NZ T&D market.
• Knowledge of electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators.
• Exposure to substation layout design, insulation coordination, and NZ standards (AS/NZS).

Responsibilities

• Support concept and detailed design work packages for primary systems and substation projects.
• Produce single line drawings, substation layouts, MV/HV cable designs.
• Collaborate with technical leaders to submit work packages for verification within standards and processes.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver designs within time, budget and scope.
• Provide input to client discussions and develop drawings and deliverables.
• Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout lifecycle.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and value engineering.
